Sir,
In relation to the claim of the estate of the late Rev. Thos. Johnson under the Treaty of 1854 with the Shawnee, which was the subject of your report of the 1st inst. I am of the opinion that, under the contract between Hon. George W. Manypenny Commr. of Indian Affairs on behalf of the Shawnee Indians, and the missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church South by Rev. E.W. Sehon, payment should be made to the Administrator of Thos Johnson of the sum of $5,500 as recommended by you.
A letter has been addressed to W.L. Harris Esq. informing him that the matter concerning the land, is under consideration, and that any documentary evidence he may desire to file, will now be received.
