Sirs
It is the determination of the Department to reduce the whole subject of education among the Indian tribes, to as perfect a system as possible and to contribute to its advancement & general diffusion all the means at its disposal or any way subject to its control. With this object in view it is necessary that all the information that can be obtained should be in its posession, I have therefore to request respectfully urge you to answer the following queries with the least possible delay:
- The name of your society
- The name designation & location of each school under its charge; & whether conducted on the manual labor principle or otherwise.
- What amount is contributed annually, by the government or the Indians, to each school separately.
- What amount is contributed annually, by the society,
- Give the name of the individual who conducts the correspondence of the society and his address.
- Number of Teachers at each school, separately
- Number of male scholars.
- Number of female scholars.
- How may the system at present in objective be improved.
- When was the school established and its origin
- At whose expense were the buildings erected & what was their cost.
- What is the present condition & value.
- Are they suitable for the object intended
- Is there any contract or agreement existing between your society and the government or the Indians. If so please furnish a copy of it.
- Any general information it may be in your power to provide.
