Report of Thomas Johnson to the Corresponding Secretary of the Missionary Society of the M. E. Church:
Dear Brother.— While I was in New York and Philadelphia, and witnessed the deep interest that was felt for Indian Missions in the west, I frequently thought that if I ever lived to get home, I would write oftener than I had done; but I have, as usual, suffered other things to occupy my time, to the neglect of this important duty.
We got home on the 13th ultimo, and were much gratified to find our families well, though one of my children bad been near the gates of death during my absence; but God in mercy raised him up….
The missionary who was appointed to the Pottawattamy mission has failed to go to that work, on account of affliction in his family. Since I returned home I have employed brother Boucheman, was was with me in the east last spring, to labor with the Pottawattamies until conference; he will also be assisted occasionally by brother Talbott, of the Peori mission….
After I wrote the treasurer from Washington City, I held a missionary meeting at Wheeling, and collected $55.06. I also received $10 from Mr. Budd, of St. Louis. Please have the same credited in the Advocate. My account with the treasurer will stand thus:—
Whole amount received from every source | $501.50 |
Whole amount of expenses for Boucheman and myself | 326.18 |
This will leave me indebted to the treasurer. | 175.32 |
I will arrange this at conference when our drafts are made out for next year.
Yours affectionately,
Thos. Johnson
