- Letter-1865, April 7-A
Department of the Interior
Washington, April 7, 1865.
Sir,
Since your report of the 1st inst. and the claim of the estate of Revd T. Johnson, under the Shawnee Treaty of 1854 and contract between Comm. Manypenny and the M. E. Church South, I notified W.L. Harris Esq. that the subject was under consideration, and, if he had any documentary evidence showing that the title to the three sections of land to be equitably in the M. E. Church, that opportunity was offered him to file it. Nothing has since, reached the Department from Mr. Harris, in the matter. The application of A.S. Johnson Admr should be granted, and patents be issued to Thomas Johnson for the three sections referred to; you will therefore furnish the Commissioner Genl Land Office with a copy of this letter as his authority for issuing the patents.
Very respectfully &c
J.P. Usher
Secretary
Wm. P. Doyle Esq.
Commr of Ind. Affairs.
