Washington March 28, 1865

Sir

   We the undersigned being well acquainted with Alexander S. Johnson of Shawnee County Kansas, son of Rev. Thomas Johnson, who was murdered by Gurrillas on the 2 day of January last in Jackson County Mo. take pleasure in saying that he is a loyal and reliable Gentlemen.

   We also state that we know something of the claim presented by him as administrator of his Father for three sections of land and for a balance of moneys due him growing out of his maintenance of the Shawnee Manual Labor School, and from what we know of said claim we believe it to be equitable and commend it to your early and favorable consideration.
