You don’t necessarily need a passport for this adventure but it makes exploring more fun.
The new Kansas City Passport to Adventure is a guide to sites worth visiting right here is the metro area. From Liberty to Lenexa to Lee’s Summit, you’ll find nature centers, parks, gardens, museums and historic sites.
You can start at the Shawnee Indian Mission and pick up a passport booklet that includes a map and descriptions of each site. It also lists a “hunt question” for each location you visit. Answer the question and earn an official stamp from that site. Once you have collected at least twelve stamps on your passport, you can register for the Grand Prize Drawing next November.
The Passport to Adventure program is sponsored by the Interpretive Site Coalition, an alliance of 23 historic sites that offer first-hand “living lessons” in history, nature, science and local lore. You’ll discover walking trails, butterfly gardens, artists’ studios, farmsteads and prairie schoolhouses, all within an hour’s drive.
