.

Ind. M. L. School Apr. 18th 1850

Dear Sir

In compliance with previous instructions I herewith make my first quarterly report for the current year of the condition of the Indian Manual Labor School under my superintendence.

The school for this quarter consists of eighty one scholars as follows

Shawnees 17 males 22 females 39
Delawares 5 12 17
Ottawas 7 4 11
Pottawattamies 4 1 5
Peoria’s 1 1 2
Wyandotte 1 1 2
Cherokees 2 0 2
Choctaws 1 0 1
Pequods 0 1 1
Omahas 0 1 1
38 males 43 females 81

I feel that I have but little to report to the Department more than was embraced in my last, the course of instruction, time devoted to study, and to work_ kinds of employment etc. etc. being about the same as formerly reported. I must state however that our scholars have been more regular in their attendance than formerly, and we have had but little variation from our present number during the session_ It will be seen by referring to our list of scholars that the Shawnees continue to manifest a great interest in the cause of education, nearly half the scholars at present being Shawnee children.

The health of the scholars and of all employed at the institution has been+ continues to be good.

The business on the farm in the mechanic shops, mills etc. is all going on about usual.

Accompanying this report you will receive my accounts of disbursements for the quarter with vouchers.

I have the honor to be dear Sir
your Obt Sert
Thos Johnson Supt
