Report of Thomas Johnson
Aug. 27, 1854
Sir: In compliance with your instructions, I respectfully submit the following report of this institution under my charge:
The past year, taking in view the interest of the institution generally, has been one of the more than ordinary interest. The number of children in attendance through the past year has been large, and I think that the Indians have begun to see the importance of keeping their children to school more than they formally did.
The health of the school has been remarkably good, taking into consideration the prevalence of the cholera that has been through our vicinity, passing all around us and leaving us unharmed, for which we would render our grateful acknowledgement to Him who has power both to give and take life.
The number of Shawnee children in attendance for the past year is 49; number of Delaware, 19; number of Wyandotts, 14; number of Ottawa, 23; total 105.
All of which is respectfully submitted:
Thos. Johnson, Superintendent.
Fort L. M. L. School, T. Johnson.
