By this statement it will be seen that the estimated expenses for carrying on the Ind. M. L. School for the year ending December 31st 1844 is $ 11,025.00
It is not, as was stated in a former report, practicable for us to show what each pupil costs, the mills, shops and farm aiding but had not our society been to the expense of erecting said mills and shops and making the farm: and had we consequently every article of provision etc. to purchase. I have no doubt [sic] the cost of each would be at least $100 per annum.
The superintendent, Teachers, workmen and scholars all board at the same table and care is taken that the scholars have plenty of wholesome food; men for teachers who feel interested in their mental and moral culture: that they have good clothing; that they are kept cleanly and orderly; that they have medical aid when sick, in short we use them as we would our own.
The school is doing well; the scholars are advancing in their studies and we have their confidence and that of their parents.
For a more satisfactory account of the state of advancement of the school, see my Report to the Department of Sept. 15th 1844.
This report is most respectfully
submitted by your most humble and obedient serv’t.
E.T. Peery Superintendent of
I.M.L. School
