Throwback Image! This picture of the West building was taken in 1939, 100 years after the building was constructed. The site opened as a designated State Historic Site in 1929 and the second image shows the text panel that was located outside of the building. As the text indicates, the original West building, constructed in 1839, was much longer to the south than the existing structure. The footprint of the building was actually discovered during a KSHS archaeological dug in the recent past.
