Sir
A requisition has this day been paid in your favor for 3,750$ to convey the allowance made by the Dept to the Manual labor school located within the Indian Country west of Mississippi for the last half of 1840 & the whole of the year 1841.
The Sec. of War directs, that the Society furnish this office as soon as convenient and before any more funds shall be required a statement in detail showing the actual and necessary expenses of each student for a year.
The subject of the funds, set apart by the recent treaties with Indian tribes–for education purposes, will receive the attention of this office whenever the chiefs governing these tribes shall express through their agents a desire to have [?] in whole or in part appropriated to be expended at the Methodist Missionary Society Manual labor school, to pay expenses of their children sent to that establishment; and that such desire may be officially known as early as practicable, a communication will be sent directing the agent to make the enquiry & on the receipt of their report steps will be taken to furnish them funds–for disbursement under the regulations of this office
Very &c.
