In a season when so much has been cancelled, it’s truly exciting when a new event gets added to the schedule, especially one that involves beautiful, live music in a lovely (Covid-safe) setting on a crisp fall evening. That’s exactly what over 300 lucky concert-goers experienced on October 8th at the Mission.

The City of Fairway, the Kansas City Symphony and the Mission teamed up to present an outdoor concert at the Mission. The porch of the West building became the stage for a classical ensemble of musicians from the symphony. The lawns along the creek became an open-air music hall as the socially distanced audience of all ages gathered on lawn chairs and picnic blankets.

Some sipped, some dined and some just listened to a free live concert, featuring some of the finest musicians in the region.

As part of its community outreach during the pandemic, the KC Symphony offered a number of small outdoor concerts this summer but none were so well-attended as this one. Judging from the impressive turn-out and the high praise from both the musicians and the audience, it’s possible that the Mission will offer an encore performance next year.
