July 3rd 1850

Dear Sir,

In compliance with instructions I herewith make my second quarterly report for the current year of the condition of the Indian Manual Labor School under my charge.

The number of children attending school during the first month of this quarter was the same as mentioned in my last report, but about the time of our spring vacation the measles and whooping cough made their appearance among the children, and has spread throughout the neighborhood; this has prevented them from coming in as promptly at the beginning of this session as usual_ Our present list shows the number to be sixty eight; twenty nine males and thirty nine females. Some seven or eight of this number never attended school before, and a few others have been here but one session

The students have made as much progress in their studies as could reasonably be expected and are all at the present time in the enjoyment of good health_

It is now just the beginning of our oats and hay harvest, of which we will have a tolerable fair crop_ For assistance in harvest; as well as for a supply of wood and logs for the mill we have to depend principally upon our neighbors the Shawnees_

Accompanying this report you will also receive my account of disbursements for this quarter with vouchers+

I have the honor to be dear Sir
Your obt Servt
Thomas Johnson Supt.
