The Shawnee Indian Mission Fall Festival, as we all know and love it, has been cancelled for 2020. It would have been the 35th time the Mission gathered a large crowd for a two-day celebration of local crafts, local history, Native American traditions and of course, the harvest.
The Mission staff and volunteers are now working on ways to translate at least some of the fall festival offerings into virtual form. The artists from the craft show might display their wares in an online marketplace; some of the Native American performers might offer podcasts of their dances or on-line explanations of tribal traditions; or the quilters could offer a virtual exhibit. We don’t have any ideas yet on how to create virtual food but we’ll keep trying.
There are no specifics yet but visit our website (shawneeindianmission.org) for updates on our alternative Fall Festival.
