Generous donors have made it possible for the Foundation to hire a Volunteer/Data Coordinator to support the work of the hundreds of volunteers who are the ‘wheels’ of the Mission.  The independent contractor position is part time.  To view the Position Description, click to download.

The Mission exists today because of a tenacious group of ladies in the early 1920’s who lobbied Kansas to acquire the Mission and make it a State Historic Site.  Their legacy of volunteerism endures today as the Foundation’s all-volunteer team is responsible for funding, planning, and community event/education.  The Foundation is a partner in the triumvirate of partners who steward the Mission together.  The State of Kansas is the owner and is responsible for major maintenance.  The City of Fairway is the partner responsible for Mission operations, including tours and field trips.  This unique public/private partnership benefits the Mission through the various perspectives and resources that each partner brings to the table.

The Mission’s history is wide-reaching, diverse and multifaceted.  The public ownership of the Mission allows for all voices to be a part of the historical interpretation and the educational programs.  The new Volunteer/Data coordinator will help the Foundation with its ongoing outreach and development of new plans and programs.
