The Mission has been a cornerstone of our community for nearly a century. It is far more than a historical site.  It is a learning hub, dedicated to enriching lives through education.  Thousands of 4th graders spend an entire day at Trail Through the Mission.  What to pack for their hypothetical journey on the Oregon Trail?  Decide well!  Next provision stop is Laramie, WY.  With these and thousands of other visitors each year, the Foundation aims to grow by expanding its educational programming, drawing a wider audience, and fostering deeper connections to the mid-1800s history it embodies.

The Mission also serves as a community hub, organizing events like the Fall Festival, Chili Cook-Off, July 3 Fireworks Picnic, Holiday Party, the Holiday Tree Sale and Native Plant sales. The grounds at the Mission are the largest green space north of 75th Street in NE Johnson County; 12 acres for people to stroll, walk the dog, come with the kids to play or wade in the spring fed stream….an oasis for many! As the Mission partners look towards the future, we are committed to finding new ways to serve you, your family, friends, and neighbors, ensuring the site’s legacy continues for generations to come.

Your financial contribution, or your gift of your time, can help us broaden our ability to serve you, your children and your grandchildren. Prioritizing the Mission as a recipient of your generosity can significantly enhance the site’s future! A return envelope is enclosed for your convenience. Alternatively, you can donate on the Foundation’s website – shawneeindianmission.org. ‘Donate’ button at the bottom of this page. Thank you for your support of the past and the future!
